July’s Quick Hits & Headlines

| By Kathryn Deen |

Here’s a roundup of the latest notable news around Clermont.

Victory Pointe, Here We Come!

Ducks at Victory Pointe

Victory Pointe will have its grand opening 10 a.m. July 27 with a 10:45 Water Ski Show, but the ducks have already arrived, as evidenced by this sweet photo.

City Manager Darren Gray describes the innovative storm-water treatment project as “the game changer” of the City’s Master Plan to revitalize the downtown-waterfront district.

Victory Pointe’s passive park boasts an observation tower, pier, trail, event venue with pavilion, and a new start and finish line area for future races. Stay tuned for Clermont Magazine’s interview with the City Manager in our August issue.

We’ve Got Spirit!

Proud resident here. The City of Clermont won the Florida League of Cities’ City Spirit Award last month. One city receives the award per year for an impactful initiative, and Clermont’s was The Oakhurst Project. In a year, the City and the Clermont Police Department turned a crime-ridden neighborhood around through beautification and building relationships with residents. Way to go!

Epic Movie Seats

IMG_8830Epic Theatres announced earlier this month that you’ll soon be able to relax in new “luxury loungers” while catching a flick.

The over-sized red seats have an electric-powered recline feature. Don’t snooze through the movie!

We checked out the one on display in the lobby and think they’re pretty… epic!

Pups Dine Out

Last month, we asked our Facebook followers to share their favorite dog-friendly restaurants. Click here or below to read what they had to say. (Like/Follow us on Facebook here.)

Purr-fect Volunteer Opp

Switching gears — Attention cat lovers! Interested in volunteering at the Orlando Cat Cafe? The first Volunteer Orientation with new partner SPCA will be held 6-8 p.m. Thurs., July 19. Reserve your spot here. “Paws” to give back. (We couldn’t help ourselves.)

Comida on the Go!

35736007_466197800501851_4987858886506577920_nVida 365 got its first food truck up and running last month.

The healthy gluten-free bistro and juice bar’s storefront opened in January 2017 at 16129 Highway 50 #104.

Keep an eye out for their fresh wheels.

Honoring the Fallen

The Clermont Fire Department will dedicate its new engine to a fallen hero. Former Clermont firefighter Joseph DeMarinis, 32, died of a cardiac episode following his shift in 2016. A traditional Push-in ceremony will start at 9 a.m. Saturday, July 14 at Fire Station No. 3, 2155 Legends Way. Much respect.

Artists Wanted

ART -- IMG_0214.jpg Artists, crafters and sponsors can sign up now for the 12th annual Downtown Clermont Art Festival.

Save the dates Nov. 3 and 4 and save on registration by applying here before Aug. 1. Vendors can also secure space.
